Ikebana trial lesson in London

Style: Ikebana free-style

Ikebana trial lesson

We will guide you through a trial lesson as an experience before starting the regular Ikebana class. You can't understand many things without actually experiencing them, so feel free to get started. Everyone is a beginner and maybe worried at first, but what they get is more than expected.

You don't need flower design skills to get started. First of all, we will begin with how to hold the scissors. Then, while explaining how to handle Kenzan and how to make it beautiful, the teacher will give you a model work. After that, let's create your ikebana while remembering the teacher's lecture. After completion, the teacher will provide you with advice and explanations. It's done slowly, so even beginners can rest assured! Join the lesson as if you were coming to play.

FAQs

I have never made Ikebana in my life. Is that okay?

Yes, don't worry. Everyone is a complete beginner at first. I will teach you carefully from the beginning.

I learned flower arrangement, is there any difference from Ikebana? If so, please tell me the difference.

Yes, there are some differences between Ikebana and flower arrangements. One big difference is that "flower arrangements" are called additive aesthetics, and "ikebana" is called the opposite subtractive aesthetics. The way of thinking is different. Flower arrangement is a work that imagines a space where many flowers bloom, while "ikebana" is a work that makes use of space with few flowers and plants. Ikebana can express the beauty of Japanese ties with a single object, and not only gorgeous but also the simple beauty and sensibility of nature can be refined.

How old can Ikebana start?

There is no particular age to start. School education in Japan, which is the home of Ikebana, attracts many people, from elementary school students to high school students and university students. And some start as adults or retire as a hobby in life. I think it's best to start when you're interested.

Can I bring back the flower arrangement I made together?

Of course, you can take it home. Please decorate at home. Leave it as it is if you do not need it.

I want to make Ikebana at home. Is it possible to buy the minimum necessary items such as scissors and kenzan in the classroom?

Yes, of course. There are various types of scissors and flower holders in the classroom, so we will introduce the one that suits your needs. We also have a great starter set for beginners. We will give you an Ikebana set as a gift to those who join the regular class.

Can Ikebana be learned regardless of gender?

Yes, you can. In Japan, which are the origin of Ikebana, women and many men enjoy Ikebana throughout their lives, from elementary school students to the elderly in their 90s.
